Why Some Youngsters Are Bullied
Why are some young people bullied?
Some young people are bullied for no particular reason, but sometimes it's because they are different in some way - perhaps it's the colour of their skin, the way they talk, their size or their name.
Sometimes young people are bullied because they look like they won't stand up for themselves.
Many times the bullies are seeking a sense of power over others and a feeling that they are able to force their way into the spotlight of their peers. It is essential that children and youth work together to ensure that they do not encourage bullies through laughing when the bully is hurting someone, that they as a group stand up and say that bullying is wrong. Once a bully feels out numbered and realizes that the actions they are taking are not being accepted by the majority and that it is not getting them the positive attention that the bully is seeking, the behaivior will probably change. Bullying is not acceptable and as peer groups take it more seriously, attitudes can be changed. The most important people in changing bullying in schools and amongst our youth, are the youth themselves.
