Video Game Addiction

Are video games ruining your child's life? It is possible so should we go and shut down every video game system in the world until we find a solution? The easiest way is to regulate the total time your child plays on video game consoles and computers each day. Through this you should be ensuring a balance between video games, computer use, texting, twittering etc. and good old fashioned physical activity and socializing. Video games can be a fun and engaging activity for children, youth and even adults. Children and youth are less productive in getting home and school projects completed. Instead they play on the game consoles until late at night and early into the morning. Workers who are addicted to video games in the adult years are less productive overall at work and have more sick days than their non-gaming counterparts. Some adults even as far as either quiting or being fired as a result directly or indirectly of their game addictions. This should not be completely put onto the video game industry and instead onto parents and individuals for allowing themselves to become so addicted to the games that they control their lives. While at the same time we have to understand that this is feeding into and creating addictive behavior patterns. There will be a residential program introduced in Canada for video game and computer addiction for persons 16 and older. This will see the participants taken to a remote location where they will be forced to take part in physical activity each day, counselling sessions in group settings and individual sessions, leadership and life skills development, corrective behavior pattern therapy and will actually allow for 2 hours of video gaming in the evening as a reward for those who participate fully in the days activities. As a further incentive, they gaming consoles are actually projected onto 10ft screens for a real gaming experience. Parents and individuals need to recognize when the gaming has become a problem and when help is required. This is not a boot camp style program and those participating are not forced to take part in the physical activities. Noboody is there to insult participants or others. Every person there is at all times treated with respect.
